Two weeks ago we celebrated the end of Josh's Birthday. Now Josh's Birthday was last month on the 16th, but I tend to get him activities for presents. He's just not a "things" type of guy... unless you count his snowboards, guitars, golf clubs, surf boards, etc. So let me rephrase, he like gifts that are things, they just tend to be expensive :) This year for his Birthday his big present from me was 2 tickets to the Seattle Seahawks first pre-season game against the San Diego Chargers. He was so excited since he had never been to a Seahawks game before and has always been a fan.
It's about a 2 hour drive from our place in Huntington Beach down to where the stadium is, but for about half of it your along the coast (well, in sight of the ocean). Chargers games are notorious for being easy to get tickets to and for not selling out. It is actually such a big problem that in the almost 5 years I have lived in California they have threatened to black out the games on local tv stations so more people show up at the stadium. So, despite the fact this was the first pre-season game of theirs and how exciting it is that football is starting back up we had the easiest time ever parking and the total game attendance was just a bit over 50 k.
Anyway, we had fun tailgating out of our mustang despite not having fun food to grill. Oddly enough cheeries, beer and spinach artichoke dip ended up making the cut. The weather was pretty perfect and the atmosphere of a football game only made it better.
At this point I'm getting a bit tired of writing this post so I'll finish it off like this:
Things that were awesome!
1) The Seahawks won!!!
2) The stadium had these giant escalators, I'm talking like 3 levels high!
3) We were sitting in the Seahawks section next to this group of crazy super fans wearing head to town gear with the number 25 all over it. They all even had really fancy leather jackets with their names sewn on. In the 3rd quarter we realize people are going up and taking pictures with the lady sitting next to me who had been high fiving us all game. Yea, turns out it was Richard Sherman's mom and the other people 20-25 to the left of us in our section were all members of the family. Her jacket even said "mom". We felt kind of stupid, but Josh got over it real fast and told her he loves her son...
Things that were weird/ lame (boo)
1) The San Diego Super Chargers song. It's 70- ness was just too spectacular for words.
2) The girl sitting behind us that insisted she was a huge football fan but couldn't name each of the teams names based on the banners hanging up when her friend asked. If your a football fan you know this, come on!
3) The crazy long drive back home.
4) 9 dollar beers, expected, but lame none the less.
